tyreek hill injury

As of September 30, 2025, Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill is officially out for the remainder of the 2025 NFL season. He suffered a dislocated left knee and tore multiple ligaments, including his ACL, during the Week 4 Monday Night Football game against the New York Jets. Hill underwent surgery on September 30th. While the surgery reportedly went well and no additional surgeries are currently expected, his return timetable for the start of the 2026 season is uncertain due to the severity of the injury. Hill is facing a potentially long and difficult recovery and rehabilitation process. He was carted off the field after being tackled awkwardly along the sideline, with his leg twisting at an unnatural angle. Despite the injury, Hill remained in good spirits, smiling and waving to the crowd as he was taken to the hospital. He even posted a video on social media from his hospital bed thanking fans for their support before his surgery. Hill's absence is a significant blow to the Dolphins, who started the season 1-3.

Tyreek Hill's future and context
  • Contract: Hill's contract with the Dolphins extends through the 2026 season, but the 2026 portion is not guaranteed until March 2026. The Dolphins could potentially move on from him to save cap space.
  • Age: Hill is 31 years old and will be 32 at the start of the 2026 season. Recovering from a major knee injury, especially one that relies heavily on speed, is a significant challenge for an athlete his age.
  • Previous injuries: Hill played through a wrist injury in 2024 and had surgery on it in February 2025, according to Sports Injury Central. He also dealt with an oblique injury during the 2025 preseason.
  • Impact on the Dolphins: Hill's absence creates a substantial void in the Dolphins' offense. Jaylen Waddle is likely to step into the role of the primary receiver, and other players like Cedrick Wilson, Malik Washington, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Dee Eskridge, and Tahj Washington could see increased snaps and targets. The team may also increase the usage of tight ends like Darren Waller and Julian Hill
